Litigation Legal Assistant - Labor & Employment (Defense)

Location: San Diego, CA
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week (8:30 AM - 5:30 PM)
Compensation: $30-$48/hour
Work Environment:

  • One position offers potential for 1 day/week remote work (for the more experienced assistant)
  • One position is 100% in-office

About the Opportunity

Our Labor & Employment Group is seeking two dedicated and enthusiastic Legal Assistants to join our San Diego office. These roles support our defense-side litigation practice. One position replaces a departing team member, and the other supports growth due to an internal promotion.

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and strong litigation support skills, with the desire to grow their careers at Quarles. California-specific experience is required.


Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive case management support to attorneys.
  • Prepare, revise, proofread, and finalize a wide range of legal documents.
  • Handle e-filing in state, federal, and appellate courts.
  • Maintain confidential files, records, documents, and reports.
  • Manage intake and conflicts checks, process attorney time entry, and assist with client billing.
  • Maintain and update attorney calendars; coordinate travel, meetings, and conferences.
  • Perform additional administrative or case-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of civil litigation experience (California-specific experience strongly preferred).
  • Experience in labor & employment litigation is a plus.
  • Proactive attitude, flexibility, and the ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe Professional.
  • Strong familiarity with electronic document management systems and local/state/federal court rules, including e-filing and calendaring.
  • Excellent communication, organization, writing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Experience with iManage and Compulaw is a plus.
